What is SEO in Digital Marketing?
Search engine optimization, or SEO. It’s a process of fine-tuning the technical settings of your website, producing content with targeted keywords that users look for on Google or other search engines, and having your website listed on search engines for increased traffic and lead creation. On-page SEO, off-page SEO, and technical SEO are the three tactics that go into SEO. (We will explore all these three tactics in depth in different article).
What is Google Ads in Digital Marketing?
Google ads’ primary goal is to generate leads by getting traffic on websites through various mediums. According to the type of ad being run, for example, if it’s a search ad, the majority of the traffic will come from the Google search engine; if it’s a display ad, the majority of the traffic will come from Google AdSense partner websites or mobile applications.
You might be wondering how Google ads and SEO are different. The main difference is the money, time, and effort involved. Google Ads require you to pay a certain amount to run ads. The more money you spend, the more visitors and leads you get. If you spend less, you will have fewer visitors. Google Ads use methods like Pay Per Click (PPC) and Pay Per Impression (PPI) to make these ads work. In case of SEO, you may have to pay a fixed amount every month to an SEO specialist to make your website SEO-friendly, and the specialist will follow the best SEO strategy according to your business strategy to keep your website on top of the google page ranking.
When discussing the benefits of SEO over Google Ads (formerly known as Google Ads) or the advantages of Google Ads over SEO, it becomes a debatable topic. In this article, I will discuss various points that cover the pros and cons of both Google Ads and SEO. To make this blog more useful and entertaining, I shall talk about my actual experiences working with clients to provide Google Ads and SEO services.
I have been providing digital marketing services to my clients, who belong to various business sectors. Some of my clients are from the textile industry, which manufactures textile products for domestic buyers only; some deal with international buyers; and a few deal with both domestic and international buyers.
We have three types of manufacturers producing the same products here, and for illustration purposes, let us consider blankets as the main product for all three businesses mentioned below.
Type A: Manufacturers Dealing with Domestic Buyers Only
Type B: Business Dealing with International Buyers Only
Type C: Business Dealing with Domestic and International Buyers
What would be the best lead generation strategy for Type A businesses?
- Manufacturer dealing with domestic buyers only.
Let me share my experience with one of my clients, who makes blankets for customers in India. They focus mainly on getting more customers during the winter season. “In India, the winter season happens at the same time as festive and wedding seasons, which presents a great opportunity for them to increase their sales.”
In such cases, using Google ads has an advantage over SEO. SEO strategies can take at least 4-6 months to get a website ranked on Google, and sometimes it takes even longer, depending on the level of competition in the business niche. So, if you or your client need a quick response on Google or want to generate leads during specific times of the year, using Google advertisements is the best strategy to consider.
What would be the best lead generation strategy for Type B businesses?
B: Business Dealing with International Buyers Only
One of my clients works with international buyers exclusively. They already have many clients, and their business is running smoothly. They are not in a rush to find new buyers, but they do want to improve their online presence to attract occasional leads from overseas buyers.
After analyzing the client’s needs, we decided to focus on an SEO strategy for this situation. The great thing about SEO is that you do not have to pay for each visitor to your website. In contrast, with Google Ads, you must pay Google for every click your ad receives.
Beyond the financial aspect, an SEO strategy also brings other benefits. It can enhance your website’s overall performance, including user experience, loading speed, the positioning of lead forms, and even boost your website’s domain authority.
What would be the best lead generation strategy for Type C businesses?
- Business dealing with domestic and international buyers.
“Now, let’s talk about our third client’s needs. This client caters to both domestic and international customers. During the winter season, they require a sales boost for their domestic business. Additionally, they need a continuous stream of sales leads throughout the year to expand their customer base worldwide. To address this, we implement seasonal Google Ads campaigns while maintaining a year-round focus on SEO efforts.”
In brief, if a client needs quick results, Google Ads is the best method for lead generation. On the other hand, if the client prioritizes long-term benefits and website growth, then an SEO strategy is the better choice.
